The cornerstone of the Music Together® program is the Mixed-Age music class, for children from birth through age 5—and the grownups who love them! ®
Gathering babies, toddlers, and preschoolers together makes each class fun for all. There are lots of group activities for kids out there, but Music Together offers a true family music class for the youngest infant to the oldest great-grandparent, and everyone in between. Imagine an extended family with a dozen or more kids and a bunch of caring adults, and you'll get the idea!
A trained Music Together teacher will lead these weekly music classes at Tacoma Music Academy in singing, dancing, and playing songs that range from tender lullabies to boisterous jams using child-friendly percussion instruments.
The award-winning music, illustrated songbook, and other print and online resources will help you continue the music-making fun at home and nurture your child's musical growth—even if you don't think of yourself as a great singer or dancer. Like parenting, making music requires no previous experience or expertise, just a willingness to get down on the floor and get silly with your child!
All children have an inborn potential for music learning and growth (music aptitude) and can achieve basic music competence. Music Together defines basic music competence as audition and expression of tonality through in-tune singing and rhythm through accurate movement.
While music aptitude is normally distributed within the general population, not everyone fulfills the promise of their potential. The child's music development will sparks with varied music experiences. The critical period for the primary music development is approximately between birth and age of five.
At Music Together we recognize the value of music for its own sake. Our primary goal is to help your child achieve basic tonal and rhythmic competence and open the door to a lifetime of music participation. Our musically-rich, play-based, and developmentally appropriate approach includes parents and primary caregivers, regardless of their music ability.
Informal, play-based non-performance-oriented instruction; action, not instructions; accept and include; being silly is ok; mistakes are ok; build relationships through music and movement.
